Timing belt / Wet belts

Out of time? Most likely out of luck!

With most engines being interference, that means that when ANYTHING happens to the belt, it is almost guaranteed that the engine has started smashing itself to pieces and has caused catastrophic damage… in simpler words - Thousands of pounds to fix.
However it doesn’t have to cost an absolute fortune if maintained correctly. 

Dry belts - Majority of timing belts are recommended to be changed every 75,000 miles although we see lots of belts now being replaced at around 60,000 mile intervals due to increase in accelerated wear. We advise to check the history of your vehicle to see if there is a record of it and if not then at least allow us to inspect your current one and give you a professional opinion for a small fee of £25.

Wet belts - Yes we agree, not the best design by any means however it doesn’t mean you have to worry as there is a simple solution. If there is not record of it ever being replaced then we recommend it being done. We have changed countless wet belts and some being as low as 19,000 miles. To keep an intricate design simple - timing belts (rubber + kevlar) is constantly soaked in oil hence the name “wet belt” the oil deteriorates the rubber and these small rubber particles quickly bond together mainly in the sump and your oil pick up chocks up with rubber, allowing minimal passage of oil, essentially running your engine with no oil and inevitably……. Blown engine.
